Arizona Democratic Party joins African-American leaders in calling for the removal of Confederate monuments

Statement from the Arizona Democratic Party Chair Alexis Tameron:

“The Arizona Democratic Party stands behind State Representative Reginald Bolding, the Maricopa County and East Valley branches of the NAACP, and Black Lives Matter Phoenix in calling for the expedited removal of the Confederate monuments across our state. Arizona has an opportunity to demonstrate true leadership by doing away with these glorified monuments of hate. We can’t erase the horrible history behind these monuments, but we can do away with symbols of intolerance that have been constructed. Arizona should heed the call of our African American leaders, and take note of the transformational changes happening across our country, including in the Deep South, with the removal of these symbols. Our history should not be that of intolerance and hate, our history should always be that of equality, respect, and of inclusion.”
