Republicans willing to take an axe to Arizonans essential health benefits

With his back against the wall and desperate to find votes, Speaker Ryan is putting Arizonans at the mercy of insurance companies by axing the essential health benefits requirement that's in place under the Affordable Care Act.

On top of taking away 24 million Americans health coverage (Including 413,000 Arizonans covered through Medicaid expansion), Republicans are now willing to eliminate these much needed benefits for hard-working Arizonans:

  • Emergency services

  • Hospitalization (like surgery and overnight stays)

  • Ambulatory patient services (outpatient care you get without being admitted to a hospital)

  • Pregnancy, maternity, and newborn care (both before and after birth)

  • Mental health and substance use disorder services, including behavioral health treatment (this includes counseling and psychotherapy)

  • Prescription drugs

  • Rehabilitation services and devices (services and devices to help people with injuries, disabilities, or chronic conditions gain or recover mental and physical skills)

  • Laboratory services

  • Preventive and wellness services and chronic disease management

  • Pediatric services, including oral and vision care

“Heartless bill becomes even more heartless,” said Arizona Democratic Party Chair Alexis Tameron. “For thousands of Arizonans, these essential benefits are their entire healthcare. Republicans have gone mad and in order to satisfy a political obsession, they’re willing to make concessions that will be disastrous for the everyday Arizonan. ”
